Trip Description
Mustang, the place which is forbidden to visit but it is opened now. Mustang connecting from Pokhara offers incredible views of the Himalayas and scenic plateau.
The one-way drive to 6-7 hrs long, hence an early start (06:00) is advisable. After exiting Kathmandu at the Nagdhunga checkpoint, the route follows the Prithvi Highway further on to Pokhara. Stay at Pokhara and on the next day drive to 8 hours long(158 km) Pokhara to Jomsom taking Baglung highway to Beni- Jomsom. Again one night stay at Jomsom. And very next day 35-minute ride heading northwest towards Kali Gandaki Corridor to reach Kagbeni and again 30-minute drive head southwest on KaagbenSadakak to reach Muktinath, the lower Mustang tour.
There is plenty to see and experience on the drive; beautiful lush-green rolling hills on the other side of the river, river valleys and serpentine sculpted canyon formed by Trishuli and Kali Gandaki rivers, scattered villages and pockets of highway towns, and local produce, from vegetables to fruits to fresh fish, are sold by locals, small tea houses and eateries.
Once you reach the destination point that may be a lower Mustang, you can explore around the Muktinath temple, explore around the villages and surrounding areas. Since there is not much to do at night time so explore all the places during the daytime.
Highways in Nepal aren’t always top-notch so a comfortable ride is a must. We suggest a jeep for this Mustang tour because up to Pokhara and Jomsom the highway is awesome but you can’t take other vehicles than the jeep on the which leads you to the Mustang.
